I’m not quite sure where you are in the world, but the US has been slowly opening up after a long time staying safely at home in quarantine protecting ourselves from COVID-19. Two days ago we celebrated the official first day of summer, and I feel like now is the perfect time for a new beginning. I often ask myself the following: what would you title this chapter of your life? And I think that right now, it would be called “the road to return”. Why? Well, here we are, returning to the “real world” with changed hearts and minds and with a new appreciation for the freedom of leaving the house daily.
I know that I often talk about mindset and goal setting, so here are 5 tips for creating your “new normal” life.
1. Change the language you use - Rather than focusing on the fact that we are facing the “end of quarantine”, think about it as a new beginning, a new start to try something new, to do something great, to push into the best parts of your life and business.
2. Listen to new voices - Try a new radio station or podcast, “follow” someone new on social media - someone with a different point of view from your own. It can be exhilarating or frustrating but at it will challenge you to not go back to the “same old thing”.
3. Seek new experiences - Have you always gone to the same restaurants, shopped at the same stores, driven the same route to work? What about a new club? Hobby? Change can be healthy and can help our brain to stay vibrant. 4. Take a vacation - I’m not sure how far I will get, but this is at the top of my list. I can’t wait to get in my car and drive, see something new and be far away, if only for a while. 5. Give yourself grace - Grace to embrace all that has changed while you were away. You may hear the news that you didn’t expect or experience disappointments. By acknowledging our losses and embracing our shared experience our return can be beautiful, refreshed and life-affirming.
